Section 278 Street Lighting Designs

Section 278 Street Lighting Design

Under Section 278 of the Highways Act 1980, a local highway’s authority can enter into a legal agreement with a developer (in order to facilitate development) for the developer to either pay for, or make alterations or improvements to, the highway.

Section 278 Description

Our design team started their careers in street lighting within the installation and maintenance departments of local authorities.

This hands-on experience ensures the Section 278 designs will incorporate many elements that are often forgotten about during S278 design works.

We include any amendments to existing traffic signs or bollards and produced detailed electrical schematics, schedules and other electrical information required to make changes to any existing lighting assets on the existing highway.

There are dozens of ILP guidance notes, British and European lighting standards, technical reports and other guidance documents which need to be considered when carrying out outdoor highway lighting design.

Our design team ensure they are kept up to date with all current documentation and guidance.
